Creating Horizontal Menus/Navigation Bars

This tool bar uses the Webding font to create buttons.
600 pixels width is as wide as you should go to prevent scrolling.

Government Business Community Tourism Entertainment

You can create each graphic separately for mouseovers or make it one long tool bar and create an imagemap.

  • Create new image 415 x 73/background=white/16 million colors
  • Add New Layer - change your foreground color to black
  • Select the text tool/Webdings/letter G/size=36
  • Select Selections/Modify/Contract=2
  • Select a white foreground and grey background color
  • Select the fill tool/sunburst gradient/vertical and horizontal at 50% (select the options button on the bottom of the control toolbar to change the look)
  • Fill in the areas on the building that are selected
  • Select Selections/ select none
  • Select the magic wand tool and click on the background of the building layer
  • Select Selections/invert
  • Select Selections/modify/contract=1
  • Select Drop shadow/opacity=40/blur=8/vertical=5 horizontal=7
  • Thats all there is to creating very cool little dingbat buttons

Follow the steps above to create different buildings to add to your toolbar.

NOTE: Get layer crazy!! Always add a new layer when adding new objects. This way you can move, delete or adjust each individual layer instead of having to recreate the entire graphic.
Save your work as you go. I am sure you know the agony of working for an hour on one graphic and then the whole program crashes :)
