Resizing Images

*Please note: Enlarging non vector graphics will create a horrible, pixelated look. Avoid enlarging graphics whenever possible.

Reducing the size of your graphics is easy and hardly worth a mention, but for you new guys out there it is worthy of a comment.
Lets say you found a really great clipart that you want to use for your page, but it is just too big to fit where you want it. Here is how you can adjust the graphic to fit your space:

  • Select colors/increase color depth/ 16 million (if you are working with jpgs, this should already be at 16 million)
  • Select image/resize
  • Type in the width or the height you would like your graphic to be.
  • Click maintain aspect ratio (this will resize the height according to the width or visa versa)

Below are the before and after graphics

PSP TIP

Avoid graphics larger than 200 pixels in height - they create longer download times.
You should be able to convey your message with small, compact graphics.
If you are using large graphics, create thumbnails with links to the larger graphic so that your visitors have the option of waiting for the large graphic to load if they choose.
